Bright steel is primarily used for applications that require special dimensional accuracy and surface quality. For example, free-cutting steel for machining processes such as turning and drilling on automated machine tools is almost exclusively supplied in a bright finish.

What is bright steel made of?

Bright steel can be made from all types of steel. The chemical composition therefore depends on the starting material.

How is bright steel made?

Bright steel is produced from hot-rolled or forged steel through various methods such as drawing, peeling or grinding. This creates a smooth, bright and scale-free surface.

Drawn bright steel

In this process, previously descaled hot-rolled steel is produced without cutting by drawing on draw benches. After drawing, the steel is straightened and also wound into rings in thinner dimensions. The drawing process results in a higher tensile strength and yield point.

Peeled bright steel

Peeled bright steel is exclusively round steel. It is produced by peeling rolled or forged steel bars. During production, care is taken to remove surface imperfections such as rolling grooves, cracks, pores or splinters.
